ROOFTOP VINEYARD

 

In 2012 an idea was born to create a beautiful urban vineyard on a rooftop in London. We wanted to create the first urban vineyard in central London which actually produced it’s own wine.

 

Grape vines from southern England were selected and the varieties were Chardonnay, Pinot blanc, Muller Thurgau and Madeleine Sylvaner – all of which are used in wine production over the world. These were planted in the heart of Clerkenwell and the goal is to produce a vintage 2014 of  “Chateau Sätila”. The green roof which when in bloom also extends over the facade balustrade also makes a green oasis to contrast the busy streets below.
